Rolls of spring, summer and winter

“Spring roll” is a popular dish in not only Vietnamese cuisine but also other contries. It’s called “Nem” in the north and “chả giò” in the south. It is made of a variety of ingredients rolled in rice paper and deep fried to form crispy crust. The typical ingredients include minced pork and shrimp, shredded carrot, bean sprouts, egg. mushroom or wood ear.

“Summer roll” is made of plenty of vegetable rolled in rice paper softend with water. Its freshness is so perfect for summer. The typical ingredients include lettuce, shredded carrot and cucumber, boiled pork and shrimp.

I wondered amongst a diversity of food in Vietnamese culinary culture, which one should be named “Winter roll”. Then “bánh cuốn” came to my mind. It’s also made of ingredients rolled in steamed rice film. And it perfectly suits the winter weather. The typical ingredients include minced and woodear .

How about “Autumn roll”? I haven’t figured it out yet.
